Retiring educators and staff members from Barren County Schools were recognized during the board of education’s regular meeting on Thursday in the Barren County High School auditorium.

Assistant Superintendent Scott Harper said the retiring employees are “some of our true champions of Barren County Schools and our community.”

“Tonight, we share congratulations and best wishes to several of our staff members who are retiring,” said Harper, who was later announced as one of the retirees.

The board went on to recognize the following retiring employees: Shaun McPherson (Temple Hill Elementary); Debra Hughes (Red Cross Elementary); Robin McMurtrey (Hiseville Elementary); Patricia Blevins (Eastern Elementary); Pam Carter (BAVEL); Melinda Owens (BAVEL); Lori Houchens (Barren County Middle); and Teresa Martin (Barren County Annex).

And then the following district and central office retiring employees were recognized: Leigh Ann Allbright, CheyAnne Fant, Anthony Frazier, Vivian Garrett, Chele Gillon, Cortni Crews and Scott Harper.

In other business, the board approved the tentative budget for the 2026-27 school year.

“For every dollar we spend, 76 cents goes to our staff,” Finance Director Joe Murley said during his report to the board. “So we really do invest in our people here.”

The board entered into closed session to discuss the future sale of property as Kentucky law allows, and returned to open session without taking any action.
