Mae Firkins Edwards, 88, passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at her residence. She was born in Edmonton, KY, on September 6, 1937, to the late Maggie Lee Gibson Firkins and Andy Lucian “Gump” Firkins.
Mae loved tending her flower and vegetable garden and spending time outdoors. She also loved looking back at old family photos and sharing the stories behind them. She loved to cook, bake, and spend time talking with her loving family and friends.
Survivors include her children, Brenda Lee Edwards Hammer, Julie Ann Edwards Holmes and Michael Wayne Edwards (Alicia) all of Edmonton, KY; two siblings, Rae Firkins Gilpin (Don) of Edmonton, KY; Elizabeth Firkins Tabor (Harold) of Jamestown KY; half-sibling, Josephine Harper (Roger) of Edmonton, KY; grandchildren, Jason Edward Hammer (Traci) of Glasgow, KY; Joshua Kane Hammer (Adara) of Bowling Green, KY; Kiefer Ray Holmes of Cumming, GA; Dillian McKay Lee (Kayla) of Glasgow, KY; and Britney Nicole Edwards of Edmonton, KY; great grandchildren, Wesley Wayne Hammer of Glasgow, KY and Elodie Janae Hammer of Bowling Green, KY; and many nieces and nephews.
Mae was preceded in death by her loving husband, Eugene Wayne Edwards; her parents, Maggie Lee Gibson Firkins and Andy Lucian “Gump” Firkins; brothers, Otis, Ovie, and Lonnie Firkins; sisters, Pauline, Marine, and Christine Firkins, Irene Shaw, and Maxine Pennington; and a son-in-law, Don Holmes.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Jessie-Wilson Funeral Home with burial at the Metcalfe County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00-8:00 pm and will continue Saturday after 8:00 am at Jessie-Wilson Funeral Home.
Bro. Johnny Hubbard will be officiating, and pallbearers will be Jason Hammer, Joshua Hammer, Kiefer Holmes, Dillian Lee, Don Allen Gilpin, Nick Fields, Ronnie Fields, and honorary pallbearer, Wesley Hammer.
