A Glasgow man has been arrested in relation to a bomb threat at the Barren County Courthouse on Monday morning.

Forty-seven-year-old Lee Wesley Elmore, of Glasgow, allegedly called in a bomb threat to the courthouse about 10 a.m., according to a press release from the Barren County Sheriff’s Office. Court personnel reported receiving a call from an unknown man who claimed there was a bomb in the building. As a precaution, the courthouse was evacuated.

Deputies, bailiffs, and officers from the Glasgow Police Department conducted a thorough search of the courthouse, including all floors and the roof. No hazards were located.

Investigators determined that the suspect had placed multiple calls to courthouse offices while concealing the phone number, the release stated. Through further investigation, detectives were able to identify a suspect connected to the calls.

Elmore was scheduled for a court appearance at the courthouse later Monday morning. “Investigators also determined that after the evacuation, Elmore contacted court personnel and identified himself, using the same phone number that called the bomb threat in,” the release stated.

Law enforcement located Elmore at a residence in Glasgow. “During contact with officers, Elmore denied making the threat and then attempted to flee on foot,” the release stated. “He was apprehended a short distance away without further incident and taken into custody.”

Elmore is lodge in the Barren County Detention Center and charged with first-degree terroristic threatening and third-degree fleeing or evading police. His court date is scheduled for April 2 at 12:30 p.m.

There is no ongoing threat to the public. The investigation remains active, and additional charges may be pending, according to the release.

The Sheriff’s office was also assisted at the courthouse by Glasgow Fire Department, Barren County Emergency Management, and Barren-Metcalfe EMS.
