A Glasgow restaurant is closed after suffering significant damages to its basement and kitchen after an early morning fire on March 26.
Kountry Kitchen, located at 754 W. Cherry Street, has a sign posted on the front entrance that reads “closed until further notice due to fire.”
Firefighters arrived at the scene a few minutes before 7 a.m. to see light smoke coming from the structure. Crews deployed a 1¾-inch handline and advanced into the building, where they located the fire within the wall and ceiling of the kitchen area, according to information provided by the Glasgow Fire Department.
The fire was “quickly extinguished, and no additional fire extension was found” beyond the kitchen, according to a fire department press release. After the flames were out, firefighters ventilated the building with a fan to remove heat and smoke.
The fire is believed to have started in a wall due to an electrical short and is considered unintentional, the release stated.
No civilians or firefighters were injured, and the business was closed at the time of the incident, according to the department. However, officials say the kitchen area sustained moderate to heavy fire and water damage and the basement flooded when a water line burned through in the wall at ground level.
The Glasgow Fire Department responded with three apparatus and three command vehicles, and units remained on scene for approximately one hour. Barren-Metcalfe EMS and the Glasgow Police Department assisted at the scene, according to the press release.
