STAFF REPORT
Glasgow News 1
A swearing-in ceremony, two rezoning requests, and a pair of grant applications tied to city operations are set to headline the Glasgow City Council’s regular meeting Monday evening.
Council members will gather at 6 p.m. on March 23 inside council chambers at city hall, where the agenda opens with routine business before shifting to a brief series of presentations.
Among them is the swearing in of new Glasgow Police Officer Zachary Cook, marking the latest addition to the department. Representatives will also hear from Ty Foster of the Barren River Area Development District.
No items are listed under old business.
New business, however, centers largely on land use and infrastructure support. Two ordinances propose rezoning properties in different parts of the city, both of which would allow for increased residential density.
One ordinance would rezone three parcels – 105 and 107 Hillcrest Street along with 418 West Front Street – from light industrial to a small-lot, medium-density residential classification. The combined area totals just under a quarter acre.
A separate ordinance targets a larger, roughly 2.5-acre tract at 150 Childress Road. That proposal would shift the property from low-density residential to a medium-density, multi-family designation, potentially opening the door for apartment-style development.
In addition to zoning changes, council members will consider two resolutions authorizing grant applications through the Kentucky Pride Fund. If approved, the applications would allow the city to pursue funding for equipment purchases, including a grinder for composting and a forklift to support operations.
While no formal action is required, the agenda also includes notification of a series of executive orders updating standard operating procedures within the Glasgow Police Department. The updates span a wide range of policies, including suspect identification procedures, juvenile operations, foot pursuits, emergency assistance, and interactions with individuals with disabilities or diminished mental capacity.
The meeting will conclude with announcements before adjournment.
