RECAP: Trojans drop season-opener at Liberty Creek

Barren County took a three-run lead into the seventh inning Wednesday, but could not hold on for a season-opening win.

The Trojans led 6-3 going into the bottom of the seventh at Liberty Creek in Tennessee, but gave up four runs and fell, 7-6.

Barren fell behind early in the game, 3-1, but rallied to take a 6-3 lead after six innings. The rally began in the top of the third.

Colten Wilson drew a walk to lead off. He moved to second and third on wild pitches and Landon Uhles drew a walk to put runners at the corners. Wilson scored on an error during Jax Vincent’s at-bat. Uhles stole second during the at-bat, and moved to third on a ground out by Vincent.

Uhles scored during Jordan Harris’s at-bat on a wild pitch, which tied the game 3-3 in the top of the third.

The Trojans took a 4-3 lead in the top of the fourth when Skylar Potter scored on a sacrifice fly by Price Thompson. Potter had reached base by drawing a walk.

Barren padded its lead with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth. Vincent led off the inning and reached base on an error. Vincent scored when Harris hit a ground ball to third, and he reached safely on a throwing error. Harris moved to second on the error. He eventually scored when Gavin Coffey hit a fly ball that was misplayed.

The Trojans posted only three hits in the game, all singles. Vincent, Coffey and Wilson each had a hit.

Cameron Crawford started on the mound and pitched five innings. He allowed three hits, struck out two and walked three. Malachi Pendleton pitched an inning, allowed one hits, struck out one and walked four, and Potter pitched two-thirds of an inning. He allowed one hits, struck out one and walked one.

Barren County returns to action Thursday at Monroe County at 5:30 p.m.
