Kade Hardy caught fire Monday night as Barren County downed Cumberland County, 65-60. Hardy posted 23 points, with 12 of his game-high points coming from behind the 3-point line.
The Trojans led most of the game, then weathered a fourth-quarter run by the Panthers to secure the win. They improved to 12-9 overall.
Barren led 15-13 at the end of the first quarter, and 30-29 at halftime. The Trojans outscored the Panthers, 22-14, in the third quarter to lead 52-43 headed into the final quarter.
Cumberland County opened the fourth quarter on a 7-2 run to cut Barren’s lead to 54-50 with about six minutes left in the final period.
The Trojans pushed their lead to 60-52, but the Panthers responded with a 3-pointer and a 2-pointer to get to within 3 points, 60-57, with 1:35 left in the game.
A minute later Hardy hit one of two free throws, then Cumberland County buried a 3 with 21 seconds left. Barren’s lead was down to 1, 61-60.
The Trojans’ defense held the Panthers without a score from there to secure the win. After Hardy, Weston Shelton added 14 points, and Gavin Nunn finished with 10.
Barren returns to action tonight at Franklin-Simpson with tip set for about 7:30.
