Sharon Wilson and Jennifer Dennison were recognized for their exceptional education work during the recent Barren County Schools Board of Education meeting.

Christa Middleton, director of special programs for the school district, spoke about these two educators and their contributions to Barren County.

“Both of them have achieved 25-plus years with dedicated service to the children of our district with exceptional needs,” Middleton said. “That is incredible.”

Wilson has been “generously giving to the students of Barren County,” Middleton said. “She is known for her compassion, her tireless work ethic and her ability to make every student feel seen and valued.”

On behalf of Jonathan Devore, principal of Hiseville Elementary, Middleton said Wilson “builds relationships to strengthen a love for learning so that every child believes they can” and she is “a true advocate of students with special needs,” adding that she also has “an unrelenting love and passion for her craft.”

According to a longtime coworker of Wilson, her “love and compassion for students enables them to reach their fullest potential,” Middleton said. “Her impact on students reaches far beyond the classroom.

“She’s an inspiration to her students and coworkers.”

Middleton added that Wilson was her own personal mentor earlier in her career.

“She spent hours with me after school,” the director said. “Showing me and teaching me time and time again.

“And so I will forever be grateful for her being my mentor because I would not be the educator I am today without her.”

Dennison “has spent her entire career working in special education, showing unwavering commitment, patience and professionalism,” Middleton said.

“Her influence reaches far beyond her classroom,” Middleton said of Dennison. “She has touched countless students and families with her calm guidance and steady presence.

“Jennifer embodies what it means to serve with heart, and our district is better because of her lifelong devotion to our students.”

On behalf of Josh Maples, principal of Red Cross Elementary, Middleton said Dennison “is a team player” and is “always willing to jump in and help wherever she is needed.”

“There is no doubt that Jennifer has been a lasting difference in the lives of so many students,” Middleton said. “She is one of the best in the business.

“So we are grateful for her service, and honored to celebrate her tonight.”

Wilson and Dennison were also honored at the 2025 Kentucky Exceptional Children’s Conference, “for their lifelong dedication to improving outcomes for children of Barren County.”
