Barren County residents can now read a novel that is partially set in their backyard.
Dee Armstrong Crabtree, an author from Indiana, has announced the release of her third historical novel: “When One Falls.”
According to a press release from the author, this work is “a sweeping novel inspired by generations of family lore, rooted in the real-life legacy of the Bunch family — a Melungeon clan whose story unfolds in the rugged hills of Appalachian Kentucky.”
“Across decades of hardship, the Bunches confront prejudice, war, and personal strife, their honor and heritage tested at every turn,” the press release states. “Yet through trials both public and private, they endure with quiet strength, finding resilience in love, reconciliation, and community.”
Crabtree said this novel is “set against the backdrop of Cumberland and Barren counties,” and it “brings to life the struggles of a family determined not only to survive turmoil, but to carry forward the spirit of those who came before.
“‘When One Falls’ offers a poignant exploration of identity, legacy, and the unbreakable ties of kinship.”
This historical novel is available in both print and digital formats.
