A Glasgow police officer was among those honored for impaired driving enforcement during an event Wednesday, Dec. 10.

Held at the Hyatt Regency in Lexington, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear gave out nearly 170 Impaired Driving Enforcement awards in recognition of “their outstanding efforts [in keeping the] roadways safe from impaired drivers,” a governor’s office press release stated.

Glasgow Police Officer Micah Janes received the award for 2025 in division 3, which is a division for law enforcement agencies with between 26 to 50 sworn officer, the release stated. This award was given with the most driving arrests made from Oct. 1, 2024 to Sept. 30, the release stated.

“This award highlights [Janes’] commitment to keeping our roadways safe and his dedication to removing impaired drivers from our streets and community,” the department stated on its social media.

In Kentucky last year, there were 4,263 total crashes involving an impaired driver, resulting in 2,068 injuries and 185 deaths, according to the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety.

“Too many lives have been lost or changed forever by those who have made the unlawful and irresponsible decision to drive while impaired,” Beshear said. “We’re so grateful to our law enforcement officers whose life-saving work makes Kentucky roads safer for everyone.”
