If the weather cooperates, people will get to set up in the new farmers market building on West Main Street by the end of January.

“What that will be is substantial completion where 90 to 95 percent of the project will be done,” Glasgow Public Work Superintendent Jim McGowan said. “Depending on the weather, a majority of it will be done by the end [of January]. The only thing that won’t be done will be that final asphalt coat.

“Weather is going to be the critical factor at this point.”

In an email sent to Glasgow News 1, McGowan stated that the storm drainage and site grading are 95 percent complete, the location “has been stabilized with straw blankets” and has been seeded, concrete curbs and gutters are currently being installed, the utilities are ready for connections, the parking lot is ready for asphalt, and the “building pad and steel erection” are both complete and ready for metal installation.

Finishing the parking lot, installing insulation and metal siding, final grading and some other finishing touches on the 3,600-square-foot building are some things anticipated to be completed next month, according to McGowan’s email.

The total area under roof will be 4,740 square feet, which includes the 1,140 square foot outdoor area, McGowan said. In late 2024, Staco Building Co. submitted a bid for $779,000 and was awarded the bid to build the year-round home of the Farmers Market.

The metal building is between the post office and the future Barren County Judicial Center.
