Donald Grant Norman, Horse Cave

Dec 4, 2025 | 12:58 PM

Donald Grant Norman, age 97, of Horse Cave, Kentucky, died Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at the Medical Center at Caverna in Horse Cave. Donald was born to Grant and Annie Norman on August 23, 1945, in Northtown where he was a lifetime community member.

Donald grew up farming and continued to do so throughout his entire life. Over the years he raised tobacco, dairy cattle, and beef cattle. In addition to farming, he worked a number of other jobs as well. He measured tobacco for farms all across Hart County and worked in Louisville at Brown Forman among others. On October 30, 1945, Donald married Mary Coates of Northtown. To this union were born four children, Donnie, Joe, Loretta, and Lisa. The two remained married for over 70 years until Mary’s death in 2016. Donald loved people, and people loved him. He truly enjoyed being around others and talking to them. Donald had a way about him that made others feel like they had known him for a long time. He was kind, welcoming, and had a great sense of humor everyone enjoyed. While he loved life and being around people, he truly treasured two things above all; the LORD and his family. During a revival at Northtown being held by Brothers Gordon Campbell and Johnnie Jones, Donald heard the Gospel. He often told about how Brother Gordon preached conviction on him and he made his way to the front bench where the LORD saved him. That was a day service on October 17, 1945. His soon to be wife, Mary, was also saved in the same revival. He joined Northtown Church and was a faithful member. Years later, Donald was called to preach and became an ordained minister at Northtown United Baptist Church. For many decades Donald labored to uphold the Church. He taught Sunday School for a number of years, and was a frequent visitor to many sister Churches. He was a worker for the LORD and wanted his family, and everyone, to be saved. Donald’s labor is over, and he is entered into rest, but there is Comfort in knowing for those prepared we’ll see him again. He deeply loved his family – and he was deeply loved in return. He will be greatly missed by his family, his friends, and his Church, but our great love for him will endure.

He is survived by his son Donnie Norman of Holladay, Tennessee; Joe Norman and wife Vicki of Horse Cave; daughter Loretta and husband Steve Merideth of Munfordville; granddaughter Tracey Norman-Taylor of Louisville, grandsons , Johnny Merideth and wife Rachel of Mammoth Cave, and Joey Norman and wife Kelly of Glasgow; and granddaughter-in-law Ashley Merideth of Bowling Green; great-granddaughters Chloe Henderson and husband Nate; Ella Norman; and Annabelle Merideth; and two great-grandsons, Grant Merideth and Garrison Merideth; and two-step great-granddaughters Harper and Ava Dickson and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Norman; a daughter, Lisa Norman-Ray; grandson Brian Merideth; grandson-in-law Kevin Taylor, his brother Kenneth Norman; and sisters Marie Davis, Iva Mae Norman, Rosa Harper, and Ruby Jean Poteet.
