A new book nook was unveiled at the Barren County Health Department on Thursday afternoon. The nook is for children who may be waiting with family for services at the department.

Stacy Janes, who is the program coordinator for Community Relief Fund, said the nook came as a partnership with Marine Toys for Tots for South Central Kentucky and the Tennessee Valley Authority. Toys for Tots will supply books for the nook, which was funded by the TVA.

“For over 75 years Toys for Tots has been known for bringing the magic of toys to children during the Holidays. But we know that the greatest gift we can give to a child isn’t just a toy but the love of learning. And that starts with a book. This space ensures that the joy of reading is available year-round,” Janes said after the sheet covering the nook was removed by she and Janel Doyle.

Doyle said the nook was one of eight recently added throughout south-central Kentucky, and she thanked the TVA for its continued support for the program. She is the Toys for Tots coordinator for south central Kentucky.
