RECAP: Trojans pummel Grayson, 43-0

The Barren County Trojans evened their district record at 1-1 with a 43-0 win over Grayson County on Friday.

Jaxson Byrd had a big night for Barren. He caught two touchdown passes and ran for another score.

His first touchdown came on a 27-yard pass from Briggs Harris. Jacob Dooley added the extra point and the Trojans led 7-0 with 45 seconds left in the first quarter.

Byrd scored on a six-yard run with 1:20 left in the first half. Harris threw to Corbin Wells for the two-point conversion and Barren led 15-0 at halftime.

Barren broke the game open in the third quarter. Harris rushed 20 yards for a touchdown. Then Harris hit Byrd on a 21-yard pass, touchdown pass, and Steele Whitaker caught a 27-yard scoring pass from Harris. Dooley made all three PATs and Barren led Grayson County 36 to zero at the end of the third period.

Jaxon Pierce tacked on the Trojans’ final touchdown with 3:26 left in the game on a one-yard run. Dooley nailed the PAT to set the final score of 43 to nothing.

Harris completed seven passes for 103 yards and three touchdowns. Byrd caught two passes for 48 yards. Daylan Thomas caught two passes for 20 yards, Weston Shelton caught two for nine yards, and Steele Whitaker caught one pass for 27 yards.

Thomas led Barren in rushing with 133 yards, while Corbin Wells ran for 40 yards and Harris rushed for 24 yards.

Barren County now 3-3 overall hosts Greenwood this coming Thursday at 7 p.m. in another district showdown.
