Barren County could not overcome a 14-point deficit in the second half Friday, and fell at Monroe County, 21-14.
The Falcons took a 21-7 lead with 10 minutes to play on a 22 yard touchdown pass from Branson Williams to Reece Bartley.
The Trojans answered that score four minutes later when quarterback Briggs Harris scrambled 15 yards for a touchdown. Jacob Dooley added the extra point.
Barren got the ball back with 3:35 left in the game when Monroe lost a fumbled snap. Ethan Bertram dove on the ball for the Trojans.
The Trojans moved the ball to the Falcons’ 35-yard line, but could not convert a fourth and one.
The Falcons ran out the clock from there to secure the win.
Monroe led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter. Barren tied the game 7-7 on a 9-yard run by Jaxson Byrd. Jacob Dooley kicked the PAT with 9:45 left in the second quarter.
The halftime score was 7-7.
The Falcons took the lead for good with 7:07 showing in the third quarter on a five yard touchdown run by Brayden Baxter.
Thomas rushed for 61 yards, while Briggs Harris ran for 57 and Byrd rushed for 32 yards. Harris completed six passes for 68 yards. Byrd was the leading receiver with 32 yards.
Barren County fell to 2-2 with the loss, while Monroe County improved to 3-1. See a gallery from the game here.
