Wendell Reece, Glasgow

Sep 8, 2025 | 2:01 PM

Wendell Reece, 79, of Glasgow died peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Metcalfe County on June 30,1946 to the late Leslie Taylor Reece and Bertha Reen Pedigo Reece. He was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church.

Wendell loved to tell people about his beloved Echo, where he grew up in his mother’s country store on the edge of their family farm.

Wendell was a man with a loving gentle nature and a giving heart. He loved to grow things in the dirt and raise his chickens. He loved a good bowl of pinto beans, a hug around the neck and telling people about grandkids and his dogs. Because of his kind nature, he never met a stranger. He loved to talk to people and make connections.

Leaving behind to honor his memory are his children Tony (Tina) Reece of Tennessee, Connie (Rickey) Pedigo of Glasgow, Regina (Randy) Poland of Glasgow, Jeffery (Maria) Sturgeon of Cave City, Tabbitha Melton of Glasgow and Samantha (Adam) Garmon of Indiana; grandchildren; Keiley Vandergrift, Rheagan Melton (JD), Alyvea Garmon (Lukas), Sabrina Rowlett (Nathan), Zachary Sturgeon (Melissa), Krystal Sturgeon, Tracy Sturgeon, Gracie Sturgeon and Joshua Reece;  great grandchildren, Hayden (Ivy) Berryman, Tukker (Destiny) Berryman, Hadley and Linkoln Vandergrift, Rorie and Krew Anderson, and Brynleigh Schultz; one brother, Leslie Paul Reece of Tennessee; special son-in-law, Ervin Melton and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was also expecting a new great grandson this month to carry on his name Bryer Dale Reece Anderson.

In addition to his wife of 41 years, Shirley Sturgeon Reece, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Dorothy Gilley, Francis Ferguson, Maxine Pitcock; brothers, Homer Reece, Norman Reece; an infant brother, Walter Taylor Reece and a grandson Tyler Melton.
