Three games into the season, Barren County’s defense has proven to be tough to overcome. On Saturday in Edmonton, the Trojans held Metcalfe County to 26 total yards in a 39-0 win.

Two big Daylan Thomas touchdown runs in the first half sparked Barren’s offense. With 2:42 to play in the first quarter, Thomas ripped off a 52-yard scoring run. Jacob Dooley — who had hit a 37-yard field goal earlier — added the extra point and Barren led 10-0.

Less than two minutes into the second period, Thomas struck again, this time on a 37-yard run. Dooley added another PAT and the Trojans led 17-0.

A minute later, Jaxson Byrd ran down a Metcalfe player in the end zone after a bad shot gun snap to record a safety.

Barren led 19-0 with 9:16 left in the second quarter, and that was also the halftime score.

In the third quarter, Corbin Wells scored on a two-yard run, and with 4:37 left in the period, Thomas added his third TD on a 27-yard gallop.

Dooley added an extra point to set the Trojans ahead 32-0.

Brayden Bartley capped the touchdowns in the game with an 11-yard run with 11:50 to play. Dooley’s kick set the final 39-0 score.

Thomas finished the game with nine carries for 166 yards and three touchdowns. Wells added six runs for 56 yards, while Briggs Harris rushed eight times for 25 yards.

Harris completed 5 of 10 passes for 98 yards. Byrd caught four for 55, while Weston Shelton had one reception for 43 yards.

Barren (2-1) returns to action Friday at Monroe County (2-1) at 7 p.m.
