Gloria Ann Carrico, Bowling Green

Gloria Ann Carrico 70, of Bowling Green, Kentucky, died Friday, August 22, 2025 at the Hospice House of Bowling Green, Kentucky  after a lengthy illness.

The Glasgow, Kentucky, native was preceded in death by her parents, Charles R. Wininger and Novella T. Wininger of Glasgow.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Stephen Carrico; her daughter Sara Carrico, of Bowling Green;  her brother, Ken Wininger of Glasgow, nephews, Steven Wininger and Andy Wininger; niece Leslie Manion; great nephews, Matthew Wininger, Luke Wininger, Will Wininger, Ian Manion and Case Wininger and great niece Claire Wininger.

Gloria graduated from Glasgow High School in 1973 and received both her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Textiles and Clothing from Western Kentucky University in 1977 and 1979, respectively.

She was employed at the corporate office of Fruit of the Loom, Inc. as the Product Development Coordinator. She also worked at WKU in the Office of Alumni Affairs and was an adjunct professor at WKU in both the Department of Art and the Department of Applied Human Services.

In addition, she taught art at Bowling Green Christian Academy for 19 years. Gloria was the 2010 Ky Art Education Association Private School Art Teacher of the Year and the 2022 Ky Art Education Association Higher Ed Art Teacher of the Year. She was active as an adult leader in 4-H and as a 4-H Camp Art leader and taught art for several years at the WKU Super Saturday classes.

Gloria enjoyed working in her flower garden, loved reading and was a very talented craft maker and sewing enthusiast, winning the 1995 Singer Design Competition for which her entry was published in Sew Beautiful Magazine. Gloria was a member of Living Hope Baptist Church where she was active in the Children’s Ministry.

Most importantly, Gloria was a kind and generous woman who positively impacted the lives of people she knew and anyone who needed an encouraging word or warm smile. Her kindness will continue to influence the lives of many of her elementary and college students and the lives of those who had the good fortune to be called her friend.

Funeral services for  Gloria Ann Carrico will be held at 12PM Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at J.C. Kirby Funeral Chapel, located at 820 Lovers Lane. Burial will follow at Bowling Green Gardens Cemetery located directly behind the funeral chapel.  Visitation on Tuesday, August 26 from 4-8 pm and on Wednesday August 27 from 10:00 am until the start of the service.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorial contributions to the Children’s Ministry at Living Hope Baptist Church and Hospice of Southern Kentucky.
