The Glasgow Lady Scotties opened their district soccer schedule with a win for the first time since 2019. They held off Warren East, 2-1, on Thursday to improve to 2-0 on the 2025 season, and 1-0 in the 15th District.
“I consider this our first building block to achieving something great this year,” coach Scott Zettlemoyer said.
In 2019, the Lady Scotties finished the season 12-6 and reached the Fourth Region Tournament. Since then, Glasgow has not had a winning season, which bottomed out with a winless run in 2023. Last season, the Lady Scotties picked up six wins with a young squad.
They opened this season Tuesday with an 8-0 rout of former district foe Clinton County — the team they beat to open 2019. Clinton County and Monroe County are now in the 16th District, while Warren East and Allen County-Scottsville have joined Glasgow and Barren County in the 15th.
Audrey Burchett opened the scoring for the Lady Scotties on Thursday with a goal in the 21st minute of the first half. Maria Ramos added Glasgow’s second goal with 6:40 left in the game. The insurance goal was needed as the Lady Raiders scored with less than two minutes to play.
Zettlemoyer said he thought his team wore down some in the second half, which led to East’s late goal.
Senior goalie Ladeja Driver had 12 saves in the game for Glasgow. Zettlemoyer said her play and that of senior midfielder Ava England was critical to the win.
The Lady Scotties are 2-0 to open a season for the first time since 2020, which was also the last time they beat the Lady Raiders.
