Johnny Graves

Johnny Graves, 87, of Tompkinsville, KY, passed away Tuesday, August 5th, at Signature Health Care of Monroe County.

Johnny was born in Monroe County, KY, on July 8, 1938, a son of the late Arlene (Jones) and Ewing Graves.

He married Glaydell Graves in Celina, TN on October 4, 1952. She preceded him in death on March 3, 2025.

Johnny spent his life dedicated to law enforcement. He was in the second class to go to the police academy, during 1968-1969.  Johnny served as a deputy for Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, Gamaliel Police officer, Chief of Police in Burkesville and Tompkinsville, and lastly worked as School Resource officer for Monroe County Schools. Before his law enforcement career, around 1960, he was the President of the Teamster Union at Colors Die Metal. Johnny also enjoyed farming and family.

Johnny is survived by a daughter, Shonna Short, and husband, Adam, of Tompkinsville, KY; two sons David Graves, of Bowling Green, KY; Johnny Wayne Graves, and wife, Cindy of Winchester, KY; 8 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.

Johnny is also survived by a brother, Freddie Graves, of Tompkinsville, KY.

Other than his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Darlene Faye Graves; brother, Truen Graves, and sisters, Caroline Graves, Morene Sheffield and Thelma Graves.

 

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 8th at Yokley Trible Funeral Home in Tompkinsville, KY, with burial to follow at Center Point Cemetery.

Visitation is Thursday, 4-8 p.m. and Friday, 8:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. at Yokley Trible Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Johnny’s memory may be made to Center Point Cemetery.
