A Glasgow man has pleaded not guilty in federal court to multiple drug charges.
In July, 45-year-old David Tywan Franklin was arrested by Glasgow police and members of the Barren River Drug Task Force, who discovered cocaine, methamphetamine, pills and cash. Federal court documents state the search “revealed five pounds of marijuana, approximately one pound of a mixture of cocaine and methamphetamine, vacuum seal bags, scales, and six cell phones.”
Franklin was arrested on a federal arrest warrant, according to a drug task force press release at the time.
Court records filed in the Western District of Kentucky state that Franklin was indicted on July 9 on three counts of possessing “with the intent to distribute 50 grams or more of actual methamphetamine” and cocaine. At his initial court appearance on July 14 — a day after his arrest in Glasgow — his attorney, Shawn Ken Garrett, entered a not-guilty plea on Franklin’s behalf and a jury trial was set for Sept. 22 at 9 a.m. in Louisville.
On July 18, Franklin’s federal case was unsealed and he had a detention hearing, where it was decided that he would remain in jail, citing his prior drug-trafficking arrests — many of which were while he was on probation, including a drug-related arrest in January 2025 when he allegedly admitted to “distributing 20 to 30 pounds of methamphetamine per month since 2022.”
“The court has assessed the record, contemplated the risks, evaluated conditions, and determined that no conditions exist that can reasonably assure Franklin will not pose a danger to another or the community,” the court documents state. “Accordingly, the court grants the United States oral motion…and detains [Franklin].”
Franklin was transferred from the Warren County Detention Center to the Grayson County Detention Center, according to VINE.
