This coming Wednesday, Barren County will be a part of the statewide tornado drill at 9:07 a.m.
Emergency Management Director Garland Gilliam said that unlike the drills they do every month where they receive a computer readout on each sites’ operations, this will have someone checking the 28 county tornado sirens in-person.
According to the National Weather Service, the drill will set off the Emergency Alert System, which will include weather radios, local television and radio stations but will not, except through third-party vendors, set off the Wireless Emergency Alert on mobile phones since it is identified as a test.
If the weather is bad on Wednesday, Gilliam said they will reschedule the drill to a “fair-weather day.” The weather service forecasts there will be showers Tuesday night that produce between a half and three-quarters of an inch of rain. On Wednesday, showers are likely, mainly after noon, with a 60 percent chance of precipitation.
