Eight people are dead due to the severe weather the commonwealth endured over the weekend.
In his afternoon briefing on Feb. 16, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear said the eight confirmed deaths included “motor vehicle-related deaths of men in Hart and Nelson counties; and floodwater-related deaths of a man in Clay County, a woman and a child in Hart County, two men in Pike County and a woman in Washington County.”
“Kentucky, we are seeing dangerous and life-threatening conditions across the state, and things are only going to get tougher due to widespread flooding and incoming weather,” Beshear said. “Please stay off the roads. If you see water over the roadway, turn around – it’s not worth it.”
He also said emergency crews across Kentucky had performed more than 1,000 rescues and launched the Team Kentucky Storm Relief Fund. To donate, click here.
On Feb. 16, Beshear also signed an executive order that allows “Pharmacists located in any county in the Commonwealth of Kentucky [to] dispense emergency refills of up to a thirty day supply of any non-controlled medication for residents of any county of the commonwealth,” and allows the set up of emergency pharmacies in locations not designated for them.
The order states it will expire on Mar. 19.
