As the anniversary of September 11 approaches, the Youth Service Alliance (YSA) and Barren County Family YMCA are joining forces to honor those who served and continue to serve their country.
The 9/11 Service Project, scheduled for Wednesday, September 11, will be held at 1 YMCA Way in Glasgow, KY. The event begins with breakfast at 7:30 a.m., followed by a commemorative program at 9:00 a.m., and a blood drive from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
This year’s event theme, “Honoring All Who Served,” is dedicated to first responders, veterans, and all those who have made sacrifices in service to their communities and country. The day will offer attendees the opportunity to reflect on the lives affected by the tragic events of September 11, 2001, while also showing appreciation for the local heroes who continue to serve.
Director of Community Outreach, Libby Short, spoke on what attendees could expect.
Caverna Schools will take part in the program, lending a meaningful touch to the proceedings as students participate in various activities to honor the day. The event promises a balance of reflection and community service, aligning with YSA’s commitment to empowering youth to make a positive impact on their communities.
The breakfast, which will be available while supplies last, is expected to draw a crowd of community members, including veterans, first responders, and their families. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in the American Red Cross Blood Drive, which is open to all willing and eligible donors.
The event is part of a national effort funded by the AmeriCorps 9/11 Day of Service grant, which supports service projects across the country aimed at commemorating the spirit of unity and selflessness that emerged in the wake of the attacks.
Reminiscing on the fateful day, Short shared her memory of when she learned about the tragedy.
For those interested in attending or volunteering, more information can be found by contacting the Barren County Family YMCA or visiting their website.
As Glasgow prepares to come together in reflection and service, this event offers a moment of remembrance and a reminder of the enduring strength of community.
