If you are an animal lover, but cannot extend a forever home, or already have a home full of fur babies, there are other ways to help.

The Barren River Animal Welfare Association (BRAWA) is seeking warm-hearted and capable people to be short-term foster care parents for shelter pets.  This is especially important for rescue dogs/ pup who already have a transport commitment.

“A short-term foster home for dogs is approximately 1 week placement. Although, fostering dogs for 3-4 days or even overnight is still considered being a short-term foster home. Dogs need a place to stay while waiting for transport, and even those few days will give you an opportunity to enjoy the time you get to spend with them and know you are part of the course of saving their life,” said Connie Greer, of BRAWA.
Short-term foster opportunities also offer flexibility, while helping clear much needed kennel space at a time where the need for loving long-term homes in Barren County is great.
Greer added that fostering pets is a rewarding experience that many take to for decades.
“There have been numerous foster families throughout the years and there are families that still Foster 10 – 20 years later. Fostering is a very rewarding job. To Foster a mama and puppies and to watch those puppies grow and develop into healthy adoptable pets, or to nurture a dog that’s had an amputated leg watch them gain strength and confidence to run like they never had before,” Greer said.
Most importantly Greer wants people to know that by being even a short-term pet caregiver, and freeing up space, you save the lives of dog.
“Fostering saves lives,” Greer said.
