The Barren County Fiscal Court is set to hold its regular monthly session on Tuesday, August 20, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Proceedings will commence with the customary call to order, followed by roll call, an invocation led by Tim Durham of District 3, and the pledge of allegiance.
Once the agenda for the day is adopted and the minutes from the previous meeting are approved, the court will move on to any announcements and dive into a series of reports from county officials and departments.
During the Public Officials Reports section, the Judge-Executive, County Attorney, County Clerk, and Sheriff will present updates, including financial reports and settlement matters. Key discussions will involve the Sheriff’s settlement for the 2023 property and franchise tax accounts.
Afterward, the court will receive Department and Committee Reports from several county divisions, including the Building Inspector, Coroner, and Parks & Recreation. It’s worth noting that several committee meetings, such as the Economic Development Committee and Jail Committee, have been canceled.
Under New Business, the fiscal court will tackle a variety of agenda items. These include authorizing payments and fund transfers, making appointments to various boards and councils, and approving key resolutions. Of particular significance is the approval of the county’s real property compensating tax rate. The court will also review agreements and invoices pertaining to county operations, such as animal control services and maintenance contracts for the courthouse.
In addition, the court will acknowledge the 2024 Certification of Equalized Assessment and discuss the completion of grant paperwork for the upcoming 2025 Litter Abatement Grant. Presentations are also scheduled from foster care representatives and housing authorities.
To wrap up, the court will enter a closed session for legal discussions, followed by final remarks. The next fiscal court meeting is scheduled for September 17, 2024.
