Kids cook with Wally Cat to learn food safety measures

Aug 12, 2024 | 9:57 AM

Thanks to a partnership between the Metcalfe County Public Library (MCPL) and the Nutrition Education Program, children have the opportunity to “Cook with Wally Cat”.

This hands-on program presented by Snap Ed Assistant Rhonda Harris-Page is designed to teach basic kitchen skills in a fun, family friendly setting.

“At the end of the class we will sample the food they prepare,” said Harris-Page.

The first of three classes was held last week, and the children made vegetable pizza. They all discussed kitchen safety, cleanliness and the proper use of kitchen tools, like cutting knives. The children enjoy Wally Cat.

“Wally Cat is our Kentucky Nutrition Education Cat and he loves to see kids eating their fresh fruits and vegetables everyday,” said Harris-Page.

Children will have two more chances to attend, on Aug. 14 and Aug. 21at 10:00 a.m. participants need to register in advance at the MCPL.
