Bennie R. Atwell, passed away August 1, 2024, at Tristar Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
He was born September 27, 1950, to parents Robert and Louetta (Wright) Atwell in Green County, Kentucky. Bennie had two sisters, Carolyn Sue Clymer, Monroe, KY, Janice Perkins (Tommy) Hodgensville, KY, one brother, Michael Atwell (Rhonda), Munfordville, KY. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Eugene Clymer.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years Gayle (Compton) Atwell. Daughter Karen McGee and her husband Mark. Granddaughters, Shania Jo Peerce and Faith Anne Peerce as well as several nieces and nephews.
Bennie was an active member of Providence Knob Baptist Church (Trustee), attended WKU and SKYTCS, was the owner and operator of Atwell’s Used Cars in Auburn, KY, retired from Eaton/Cutler Hammer with 20 years of service, and drove a delivery truck for Advance Office Machines for 16 years. He was a member of the National Hot Rod Association for over 40 years and was especially proud of the men, women, boys and girls of his racing community-he loved to drag race and drive a race car.
He cherished and loved his wife, Gayle. He was especially proud of his daughter Karen and granddaughters Shania and Faith Peerce.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Monday, August 5, and from 9 until 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 6, at the J.C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel. Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. A private burial will be held in Bowling Green Gardens.
