The Barren County Schools Board of Education held a significant meeting on Friday, June 14th, addressing crucial topics impacting the district.
The primary focus was the use of medical cannabis by students, a subject of increasing relevance in many educational settings.
The board voted to prohibit the use of medical cannabis by students, aligning with a policy drafted by the Kentucky School Board Association (KSBA). This decision, however, will not be fully adopted until the second reading occurs in July, allowing for further discussion and potential adjustments.
Heather Gardner, the district’s communications officer explained.
In addition to the medical cannabis policy, the board conducted the final evaluation for Superintendent Bo Matthews, who announced his retirement earlier this year.
Matthews received exemplary marks across all evaluated categories, reflecting his impactful tenure and dedicated service to the district, as Gardner comments.
The meeting concluded with discussions on upcoming events and initiatives aimed at further enhancing the educational experience for Barren County students.
As the board prepares for the second reading of the medical cannabis policy in July, community members are encouraged to provide their input and stay engaged in the decision-making process.
