Arrest in Cave City leads to multiple drug-related charges

May 22, 2024 | 7:15 AM
On May 18th, a routine traffic stop conducted by K9 Officer Garth Avery on South Dixie Highway led to the arrest of Jessica Martin on multiple charges, including drug possession. Officer Avery initiated the stop after observing a red passenger car with expired tags traveling south.
Upon approaching the vehicle, Avery detected the odor of marijuana. Martin, the driver, voluntarily produced a marijuana “roach” from within the vehicle, prompting a probable cause search.
The search uncovered a quantity of suspected crystal methamphetamine. Martin was subsequently arrested and transported to the Barren County Detention Center.
She faces several charges:
– Expired registration receipt
– Expired registration plates
– Failure of non-owner to maintain required insurance (1st offense)
– Possession of marijuana
– Possession of drug paraphernalia (buy/possess)
– Possession of a controlled substance (1st degree, 1st offense, methamphetamine)
K9 Officer Avery was assisted by CCPD Officer Billy Courtway in the investigation. The arrest underscores the ongoing efforts of local law enforcement to address drug-related offenses in the community.
