Glasgow, KY – 30 years is a long time to do anything, but for Barren County Sheriff Kent Keen, professionalism and continuing to help the community are just part of who he is. In a ceremony organized by his daughter, Becca, the Barren Fiscal Court was standing room only with a room full of community leaders who all wanted to show their appreciation for the service Kent Keen has given to Barren County for 30 years. Many spoke with reverance for Keen. None more than Becca.

Sherriff Keen’s wife, Ava, also spoke on the sacrifice her husband has made to make Barren County a safer place to live.

As part of the event, State Representative Steve Riley was honored to present Sheriff Keen with the distinction of becoming a Kentucky Colonel for his 30 years of service in law enforcement. Riley corresponded with Keen’s daughter, Becca, to see that Keen received this honor. Riley spoke from a personal perspective on Keen’s role in the community.

In addition to being named a Kentucky Colonel, March 29th, 2024 was marked officially as “Kent Keen Day” in Barren County. Glasgow Mayor Henry Royse presented the proclamation on behalf of city government, in a joint effort with Barren County Judge Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd and the Barren Fiscal Court.

Byrd could not be in attendance, but spoke with WCLU News about the big day for the Sheriff.
In true Sheriff Keen fashion, he was humble in accepting both recognitions for his service. He spoke to a crowd that he was overly impressed with in their expression of support. He had these words to say:
