Glasgow Police Department welcomes newest member to the force

GLASGOW – K9 Niko is the newest member of the Glasgow Police Department. Not only will Niko serve the GPD, but other area law enforcement agencies, as well.  According to a press release from the Glasgow Police Department, “Niko is a 20 month old German Shepherd from the Netherlands and is a dual purpose K9.” 

K9 Niko is assigned to Officer Johnathan Pendley who has been with the department for five years. Niko, with the assistance of Officer Pendley, was trained by Canine Command in Gallatin, TN and is certified through the United States Police Canine Association (USPCA) Inc in Police Dog I (PD1) Field Trails and Narcotics Detector Trials.

As a duel purpose K9, Niko will be utilized for Narcotics Detection, Article Detection, Tracking, and Criminal Apprehension for law enforcement agencies in/around Barren County, KY.

Niko will also serve as member with Officer Pendley on the Barren County Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team.
