PDB Board Moves Forward With Demolition For New Justice Center

Feb 15, 2024 | 9:55 AM

Circuit Court Clerk Krissie Coe Fields, District Judge Gabe Pendleton, County Judge-Exec. Jamie Byrd, and Tommy Gumm with Alliance Corp. at the PDB Meeting, Wednesday Feb. 14, 2024.

In a meeting of the Barren County Project Development Board held Wednesday, bids were accepted to begin the demolition of existing buildings that are currently located where the new Barren County Justice Center on West Main Street will be built..  This means, once all agreements have been signed and executed, citizens traveling in the area of Ford Drive and Water Street will soon see portions of those streets closed for the safety of the public.

According to Tommy Gumm with Alliance Corporation, about an 800 foot portion of Water Street would be closed while the demolition takes place.  Also, Ford Drive will be relocated  further west than it is now.  Ford Drive will also be closed in it’s entirety from West Main on the south side to Water Street on the northside the demolition and construction phases of the project..  Here’s Gumm with more details:

The accepted bid for the fencing came from Bradshaw Fencing in the amount of $29,125.00.

The accepted bid for the demolition of the two buildings that exist now was submitted by Skyline Construction in Tompkinsville for $89,600.  According to the Honorable Judge John Alexander, who serves on the Project Development Board, the bid from Skyline was significantly lower than other bids, saving upwards of $200,000.

Chairperson and Barren County Judge Executive, Jamie Byrd, called each vote to question, with all members voting unanimously in favor of both bids.

The Board will reconvene at their next meeting on February 28th at 2:30pm in the Barren County Fiscal Court chambers.
