(December 11, 2023) Scottsville, KY — The Allen County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a vehicle theft related to a hit-and-run collision on December 7th.
Allen County Deputies responded to the scene of the collision on Briarfield Road. During investigation, deputies discovered that 30-year-old Steven Payne was driving a pickup truck and intentionally struck a Pontiac Vibe. When the driver of the Vibe exited the vehicle after the collision, a passenger from the pickup truck got into the driver’s seat of the Vibe and left the scene. Payne told officers he was attempting to repo the vehicle.
Payne was arrested and lodged in the Allen County Detention Center. The Pontiac Vibe was located later the same day. There is an ongoing criminal investigation regarding the individual who stole the Pontiac Vibe.
Payne is charged with first degree wanton endangerment; first degree criminal mischief; and reckless driving.
