(August 17, 2023) BOWLING GREEN & SCOTTSVILLE — Two area sheriff’s offices are warning the public about scammers.
The Warren County Sheriff’s Office posted a warning on Facebook, saying that scammers are spoofing their office number and calling people to tell them they missed a court date.
The Warren County Sheriff’s Office says it will never ask for any money by phone, nor direct people to pay with gift cards.
The Allen County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook saying they have received multiple reports of people calling and asking for personal information and account numbers, claiming to be calling from a bank.
They warn that banks will not request this information from you by phone. Please do not verify or provide any information if you receive one of these calls, simply hang up. The phone calls frequently come from phone numbers with local area codes so that you are more likely to answer.
