Construction begins on Westen roundabouts project at Ashley Circle/Westen Street Intersection

Jun 19, 2023 | 4:16 PM

BOWLING GREEN – On Tuesday, June 20, contractors will begin work on the Westen roundabouts project at the Ashley Circle/Westen Street intersection.

During the initial phase, traffic disruption is expected to be minimal, if any. However, as the project progresses, traffic impacts will gradually increase. To mitigate any inconvenience, contractors will deploy appropriate signage, detours, and flaggers on-site, ensuring that traffic flows as efficiently as possible.

For the safety of both pedestrians and motorists, it is strongly advised to avoid the area unless absolutely necessary. If individuals find it imperative to be in the vicinity, they should exercise extreme caution to safeguard themselves and the workers.

The project aims to optimize traffic flow not only at the Ashley Circle and Westen Street intersection but also at the Patrick Way and Westen Street junction. Construction at the Ashley Circle location will feature the installation of a new roundabout, accompanied by the construction of a sidewalk and ADA-compliant handicap ramps with a crosswalk.

Following the completion of work at Ashley Circle, the focus will shift to the Patrick Way location. The construction at Patrick Way will entail the creation of a new roundabout, along with the construction of a sidewalk, ADA-compliant ramps with crosswalks, and utility relocations. Additionally, new storm sewer infrastructure will be implemented to complement the proposed layout.

It is anticipated that the Ashley Circle and Westen Street location will be completed by the end of September 2023. Subsequently, the Patrick Way and Westen Street location is expected to be finalized at the beginning of March 2024.
