GLASGOW – Units with the Glasgow Fire Department responded to a chlorine leak early Friday morning along Prestwick Drive.
The chemical leak happened just before 2:30 a.m. at Nemak.
Upon arrival, Fire officials spoke with facility personnel and they advised that the emergency shut-off had been activated and the building had been evacuated but they suspected that it was still leaking.
Fire units later discovered a minimal leak from a chlorine tank inside the factory.
The chlorine room along with the entire plant was ventilated to ensure the residual chlorine could dissipate, according to a press release.
Glasgow Fire Department was on the scene for less than 2 hours and was assisted by Barren-Metcalfe EMS and Barren County Emergency Management. No injuries were reported and the incident was reported to the state.
This marks the second reported chlorine leak at the factory in less than five months. A similar incident was reported on Nov. 29, 2022.
