GLASGOW — School officials at Glasgow Independent Schools released guidance to parents Friday after a student suffered a medical emergency Friday morning at Glasgow High.

The district said in a letter that a student was transported to the hospital, which caused concern, confusion and anxiety among students. The school system spoke with the student’s family sometime Friday and said they “passed along the love and support from all the staff and students in our school district.”

“Anytime a student experiences the potential for serious injury of a friend or loved one, it will naturally cause anxiety and confusion,” a letter from the school district said. “Our district counselors have been and will continue to be available to students and staff throughout this incident as needed.”

The condition of the student remains unknown. The school was placed on a brief lockdown while the incident was being investigated.

Glasgow Independent Schools released the following tips to support children in the event of an incident like the one at GHS on Friday:

  1. Please encourage your child to discuss their feelings and ask questions. This may be difficult because you won’t have all the answers. Answer honestly, even if it’s “I don’t know.” It is helpful for your child to just be able to talk.
  2. Your child may wish to record their feelings in a journal or write a letter to their friend.
  3. Some children cope by listening to music, reading, or exercising.
  4. Your child may also wish to speak to one of the counselors here at school.

Additional questions or concerns should be directed to Dr. Chad Muhlenkamp at (270) 651-6757, GIS said.

“Please keep this family in your thoughts and prayers.”
