GLASGOW — A bout of uncertainty ensued at Monday evening’s meeting of the Glasgow Council. The matter surrounded the pending sale of a portion of land along West Main Street needed for an ongoing project to build a new court facility.
The Council agreed to enter into an option-to-purchase with the Barren County Public Properties Corporation on Sept. 12. The resolution agreed upon included language to limit the option’s acceptance until an appraisal and land survey was completed on the West Main property.
Councilmembers noticed Monday that the survey renderings shown to them in a packet were different than those shown in September. The total acreage a few months ago was 2.84 acres while Monday’s information detailed 3.14 acres of land. Most council members took issue with the matter.
“This map here that’s shaded does not match up with what we voted on earlier,” said Councilman Patrick Gaunce.
After a review of the renderings and data collected since the actual survey and appraisal, the council members determined the three lot divisions of the property were not in line with those shown three months ago. For example, one tract was estimated originally to be 1.1 acres but was listed as 1.2 acres on Monday. Another was originally .67 acres but was updated as .87 acres.
“We want to make sure everything matches,” said Councilman Terry Bunnell.
The property purchase was supposed to be closed on Tuesday, but the discrepancies from September to December have caused a delay. The Council ultimately agreed to table the discussion until they could hear more about the land survey.
A special-called meeting slated for Wednesday includes one item, which is the approval of a resolution authorizing the mayor to finalize the option-to-purchase agreement.
The meeting is at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Glasgow City Hall inside the third-floor council chambers. The meeting is open to the public.
