GLASGOW — The Glasgow Fire Department will continue to dip Christmas trees through Dec. 25.
William Rock, fire chief, said the department has dipped real trees for as long as he can remember. He has over 20 years of service at the department.
“The solution – a recipe we have makes it less likely to burn,” he said. “The key to is once we dip it, it has to dry and you need to cut off probably about an inch off the bottom.”
The solution is in a large tank and trees are suspended on chains and then dipped. The solution is similar to water but contains a retardant, which will prevent it from catching fire.
The service is free to the community. To get your tree dipped, go to Glasgow Fire Station 2 at 130 Cross Street between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.
“If they’ll come out, they guys will come out and get it,” Rock said. “They’ll dip it and send it back with them.”
The department usually begins dipping trees the day after Thanksgiving. About 12 trees have been dipped thus far, Rock said. He expects fewer trees since many were already decorated and inside homes before Thanksgiving.
“It seems like a lot of people put their trees up earlier this year before we started.”
