GLASGOW — A man has been indicted after an alleged machete attack inside a South Lewis Street apartment.

The attack happened the evening of Saturday, Aug. 27, inside a bedroom within Brittany Wyche’s apartment. She called authorities to report Eddie J. Cooper, 31, had cut her in the head and hand with a machete after an altercation. He allegedly fled on foot and was later located across the street from the woman’s apartment.

Cooper denied any altercation with Wyche ever took place. He said she chased him down the street as he was walking. Wyche had a large laceration on her hand and head, according to an arrest citation.

An indictment handed down on Oct. 19 from a Barren County grand jury included charges of first degree burglary,  second degree assault, first degree strangulation, first degree wanton endangerment and third degree criminal mischief. The indictment was provided to news media Wednesday morning.

A 6-month-old baby was inside the apartment at the time of the alleged assault, according to a police citation. Wyche told police she was holding the child when Cooper “tackled” and strangled her. She said she become unconscious for a moment.

An arraignment date was not immediately clear. Cooper’s bail was set at $5,000 cash, and he remains lodged at the Barren County Detention Center.
