PARK CITY — Kentucky State Police confirmed a Bowling Green man died in a car crash along Interstate 65 early Wednesday.
The Barren County Sheriff’s Office requested state units at the 50 mile marker around 6 a.m. The crash happened in the southbound lanes, according to a news release.
A preliminary investigation found that Joseph E. Gilkey, 65, of Bowling Green, was traveling northbound along the interstate when his vehicle crossed the median and entered the southbound lanes. Gilkey’s vehicle hit a 2010 Saturn SUV. Amy J. Lee, of Hamilton, Ohio, was driving it.
Gilkey was pronounced dead at the scene. Lee was flown to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville. She is listed in stable condition, according to state police.
Two juvenile passengers in Lee’s vehicle were transported by Barren-Metcalfe EMS to T.J. Samson Community Hospital.
The investigation continues.
