GLASGOW — McGrah Avenue in Glasgow now has easy access to books around the clock thanks to the Friends of the Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library.
Friends Vice President Krista Jones presented at a spring meeting an idea of placing a “Little Free Library” in the community. The Friends said in a news release that “promoting community and access to books does not stop at the library door.”
The library is near the community center along McGrah Avenue. The Friends of the Library said they will keep it stocked with books for community members to “borrow.” Anyone is welcome to take a book or leave a book.
There will be books for all ages, including kids, teens and adults. Since space is limited, the selection will vary. Patrons are urged to visit often.
The Little Free Library is a nonprofit organization based in St. Paul, Minnesota. Their mission is “to be a catalyst for building community, inspiring readers, and expanding book access for all through a global network of volunteer-led Little Free Libraries”. There are more than 150,000 Little Free Libraries in 100 countries around the world. You can learn more about the Little Free Library program at www.littlefreelibrary.org .
The Friends of the Library meets monthly on the second Thursday of the month at 10 a.m. at the Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library at 1530 S. Green St. in Glasgow. The public is invited to attend. Membership dues are $5 for an individual and $10 for a family.
