Hiseville, Austin Tracy Fire Departments awarded grants

Sep 15, 2022 | 4:28 PM

WASHINGTON — Two volunteer fire departments in Barren County have been awarded grants.

Congressman Brett Guthrie announced the grants, which were given to the Austin Tracy and Hiseville Fire Departments.

Austin Tracy’s grant was announced in a news release Thursday, and detailed that the funding comes from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. The $207,619 grant will fund a new cascade system and self-contained breathing apparatuses.

“This new equipment will support firefighters as they provide vital services to Kentuckians in the surrounding areas. I look forward to continuing to work with this fire department as they navigate the federal grant process to ensure firefighters have the equipment needed for their operations,” Guthrie said. “Congratulations to the firefighters of Austin Tracy Volunteer Fire Department for winning this grant and thank you for your service to the community.”

Hiseville’s grant was worth $376,190 and was awarded through the same fund. It will replace a department vehicle.

“Earlier this summer I met with Hiseville Community Volunteer Fire Department Chief Dusty Phillips and members of his team and saw firsthand the vehicle the fire department wants to replace,” he said. “I know this funding will go a long way to help the fire department with its operations. Thank you to firefighters with the Hiseville Community Volunteer Fire Department for your work to protect and keep the community safe.”
