The following update was provided to WCLU News from local emergency management around 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 5, 2022.

After our notification yesterday afternoon of the missing helicopter. We gathered as much information as possible from other agencies involved.  On 3 September at around noon Mr. Stone left solo from active Coeur Airport in St. Louis, Missouri. According to Mr. Stucky there were no domestic issues known between him and his spouse. Mr Stone stopped in Sparta, Illinois and called his wife, at that point reported no issues that he was headed to Glasgow, KY to fuel again.  That after his departure from Glasgow he would continue on to Knoxville, TN. The phone call in Sparta, IL was the last conversation anyone had with Mr. Stone.

Terry Stone, the wife of David Stone called the Glasgow Police Department, Warren County Sheriff’s Office, and Smiths Grove Police Department around midnight. A ping of the iPad that was with Mr. Stone was requested. The last known pinged location was near the Warren/Edmonson County line near Chalybeate. Edmonson County agencies conducted road surveys of the area, with no contact. Barren County Emergency Management, also conducted road surveys of roadways in the West/Northwest portion of Barren County to include roadways up to airport property, also with no contact.

Civil Air Patrol and local pilots have been flying grid searches over counties with no discovery as of this release. Civil Air Patrol will continue the search, ground searches will be coordinated upon information obtained from Civil Air Patrol to local Emergency Management/Search and Rescue Coordinators.

We ask that property owners do a search of the properties they own, to not only look on the ground but also in wooded area’s. He may have had mechanical issues and had to make a emergency landing, we just don’t know. So we ask to look everywhere possible. If you do come across the helicopter that you do not tamper with the helicopter at all.  If you see Mr Stone provide the appropriate aid that is needed. Immediately call 911 and provide them with as much information as possible so we can get him the aid needed. We are keeping a positive end result but need everyone’s help.

Again, if you locate the helicopter, DO NOT tamper with anything just provide aid to Mr. Stone!

GLASGOW — Authorities say a small executive helicopter is believed to have went missing nearby while in flight Saturday evening.

The helicopter had flown over the Barren County area while traveling toward Tennessee on Sept. 3, according to a social media post by Glasgow/Barren Emergency Management. The pilot, identified as David Stone, was apparently flying below radar to avoid storms in the area.

Agencies pinged the pilot’s phone and iPad and learned he was somewhere close to Ohio County. Hunters in the area said the low-flying aircraft was seen traveling toward Glasgow, the post said.

Marcus Thurman, deputy director of the Glasgow/Barren County Emergency Management, told WCLU News late Sunday evening that a possible grid search and flyover search would be conducted Monday morning. Additional updates are expected sometime after officials complete those.

People in the region are urged to check their properties for a downed helicopter. If the aircraft is located, people are urged not to tamper with it.

“Check on the individual if you see him, just do not tamper with the helicopter!,” a post said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Thurman at (270) 261-2560.
