CAVE CITY — A man was arrested early Saturday after he allegedly flashed a handgun toward another vehicle.

Police said they were dispatched to Happy Valley Road in reference to a road rage incident. Officers made contact with the vehicles involved at Ace Hardware in Cave City.

Sammie D. Mitchell, 21, of Glasgow, told police he was on his way to a car show when he swerved to miss a semi-truck tire in the roadway. He apparently swerved to avoid the tire.

An SUV at the scene “almost rear ended his fiancé.” She was in another vehicle, according to an arrest citation. Mitchell allegedly flashed a brown and tan handgun while in the holster toward the SUV. The driver and passengers inside the SUV said Mitchell had pointed a brown and tan camouflaged handgun toward their vehicle while traveling along Happy Valley Road.

The handgun was later recovered after it was found under the passenger seat of Mitchell’s truck, police said. The handgun was inside a black holster and did not have a bullet in the chamber.

Mitchell was arrested and charged with three counts of first degree wanton endangerment.

Jail records show Mitchell was released at 4:25 p.m. on Sunday. He remains released on a $5,000 cash bond and is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 22 at 8:30 a.m., according to court records.
