Glasgow police warn of scam targeting older adults

Glasgow News 1

The Glasgow Police Department issued a notice Friday, Oct. 23, warning about a scam targeting older adults with requests to withdraw money from their financial institution. Police say the requests are presented as part of an investigation into “internal theft.”

The department said it received information about the possible scam on Oct. 23, 2026. Its notice describes a scheme that pairs a request for cash with a supposed meeting with a federal agent.

According to police, scammers tell the person that money withdrawn from the institution is needed to investigate theft within that institution. The claim of an internal investigation is part of the scam described by police.

The withdrawal request can take more than one form. Police said victims may be asked to go inside their financial institution to get the money or to use an ATM.

After making the withdrawal, the person is asked to meet someone described as an “FBI Agent,” according to the notice. The stated purpose of that meeting is to check the currency for fingerprints or other evidence.

Police identified the request as fraudulent and said no law enforcement agency will ask someone to withdraw money for an investigation.
