The Glasgow Parks and Recreation Department will host its free Halloween fest Saturday, Oct. 24, at Beaver Trail Park. Organizers say the event is open to all ages and will include a car cruise-in, trunk-or-treat and an outdoor showing of “Wicked.”
Eddie Furlong and David Curran, with the department, discussed the plans during an interview on WCLU’s Coffee and Conversation. They said families are welcome to bring pets, which will have their own costume award this year.
Hot Rods and Hamburgers will host the cruise-in from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Trunk-or-treat will follow from 3 to 5 p.m.
Furlong said the car show has drawn roughly 100 to 125 vehicles in recent years. Most participants stay to hand out candy, he said.
The movie will begin as the sun goes down, with Furlong and Curran estimating a start between 6 and 6:30 p.m. They emphasized that the start depends on sunset rather than a fixed time.
Curran said costume awards will include cutest, scariest and most creative, along with an award for the best “Wicked”-themed costume. A separate award will recognize the most creative vendor setup.
They estimated that about 1,100 people attended last year’s event. Furlong said the celebration expanded beyond trick-or-treating and a movie after the car club proposed adding a cruise-in several years ago.
The YMCA and Glasgow Kiwanis Club are among the partners helping sponsor Saturday night’s movie, they said. Those organizations also have partnered with the department for its summer movie series.
