Dorothy McCubbin, whose career included classroom teaching and district leadership in the Barren County School system, has been selected for the Louis B. Nunn Kentucky Teacher Hall of Fame’s Class of 2026. According to an announcement from Western Kentucky University, she will be honored Friday, Dec. 4, on Western Kentucky University’s campus.
A statewide committee selected McCubbin, Katherine Cleary and Lana Green-Willis for the Hall of Fame’s 18th class.
McCubbin spent 24 years teaching in the classroom in Barren County Schools. She later became director of federal programs, then served as director of instruction and assistant superintendent.
She officially retired after 37 years but continued working in interim positions. Those assignments included serving as interim principal at Hiseville Elementary, Red Cross Elementary and Barren County Middle School.
McCubbin also worked in interim positions in Metcalfe County, including as principal at Metcalfe County High School. She later returned to Red Cross Elementary on an interim basis.
McCubbin said she appreciated the recognition but felt there were more deserving candidates. She said her love of education kept bringing her back after retirement, citing her fellow educators, the children she taught and their parents.
Fellow honoree Cleary has taught in preschools and elementary schools in Monroe, Warren, Logan and Allen counties for more than 23 years and continues teaching, according to the announcement. Green-Willis taught social studies at Grayson County High School for 32 years.
