Kentucky State Police Post 3 is joining troopers from five other states in a multi-state enforcement campaign aimed at cutting crime and keeping illegal guns off Kentucky roads.
According to KSP, the 6-State Trooper Project runs from Sept. 17-20, 2026, and includes state police agencies from Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
Each enforcement period in the 6-State Trooper Project targets a specific traffic or criminal safety concern.
KSP officials say the September effort is focused on criminal patrol operations, with a particular emphasis on identifying illegal firearms carried by felons traveling on Kentucky roadways.
Troopers plan to use traffic enforcement to detect and disrupt illegal activity while checking for compliance with state and federal laws that prohibit certain individuals from carrying firearms.
Post 3 Commander Captain Tim Adams said the initiative highlights the agency’s commitment to safety at every level.
“By joining forces across state lines, we are able to work together to ensure our communities are safe,” Adams said.
“It is all about protecting families and communities throughout the commonwealth and beyond,” he said.
KSP encourages citizens to play a role in keeping communities safe by staying alert and speaking up when they see something wrong.
Officials say anyone who sees suspicious or illegal activity should contact their local KSP post, and should always dial 911 in an emergency.
By coordinating their enforcement, participating agencies are able to share resources, intelligence and strategies to maximize their impact on crime, according to KSP.
State police say multi-state partnerships like the 6-State Trooper Project strengthen the collective fight against crime and help ensure Kentucky’s roadways and communities are safer for everyone.
